# Data residency and retention

> Regions by plan, and retention windows.

Where your account's data physically lives depends on your plan. It's one of the few things on this page that isn't self-serve yet — read on for what that means in practice.

## Regions by plan

| Plan | Regions |
| - | - |
| **Starter** | US only |
| **Business** | US only |
| **Advanced** | US, EU or APAC |
| **Enterprise** | Custom regions, negotiated in your contract |

See [Plans](/pricing/plans) for how this fits alongside everything else that changes by tier.

## The identity-data exception

Regardless of which region your account data lives in, **identity data — logins, SSO assertions and MFA — is processed in the US on every plan**, under a GDPR-compliant DPA that incorporates the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Choosing an EU or APAC region moves your conversations, contacts and messages; it does not move where authentication happens.

<Warning>
  If your compliance requirement is specifically about **where identity data is processed**, rather than
  where conversation content lives, regional residency on Advanced or Enterprise doesn't solve it.
  Talk to your account team before you commit to a control you cannot meet — this needs an Enterprise
  conversation, not a settings change.
</Warning>

## Choosing or changing your region

This isn't a Settings toggle yet. Your account's region is set when your workspace is provisioned — talk to your account team to provision into a specific EU or APAC region on Advanced, or to arrange custom regions under an Enterprise contract.

## Retention

There's no fixed, published retention window on any plan — data persists for the life of your account. Deleting your workspace (see [Workspace settings](/admin/workspace)) removes it. If your organization needs a specific retention or deletion schedule for compliance reasons, that's a conversation with your account team, not a setting.
