# Personalisation

> Theme, accent colour, conversation layout and message bubble colours. All of it is yours alone — none of it changes what anyone else sees.

Everything on this page is **per person**. Changing your theme does not change your colleague's, and nothing here reaches a customer.

Two places: **Settings → Appearance** for the dashboard's look, and **Settings → Conversations** for how the conversation view behaves.

## Appearance

*"Customize the look and feel of your dashboard."*

### Theme

*"Select a theme to personalize your dashboard appearance."*

| Option | Behaviour |
| - | - |
| **Light** | Always light |
| **Dark** | Always dark |
| **System** | Follows your operating system, including an automatic switch at sunset if your OS does that |

**System** is the default and usually the right answer — it means Tied matches every other window on your screen without you thinking about it.

### Accent color

*"Choose the accent color used for primary buttons across the dashboard."*

Eight options: **Tied red** (the default), **Blue**, **Teal**, **Yellow**, **Orange**, **Pink**, **Purple**, **Green**.

<Tip>
  **The best use of this is telling workspaces apart.** If you work across a staging workspace and a
  production one, or agency-style across several clients, give each a different accent. It is the
  cheapest possible guard against sending a message from the wrong account — you notice the colour
  before you notice the name.
</Tip>

This changes **your** dashboard buttons only. It has no effect on your [web chat widget colour](/channels/web-chat/widget-builder), which is per inbox and is what customers actually see.

## Conversations

*"Set your default preferences for conversations. You can change any of these anytime in the app — these only control what loads first."*

<Info>
  *"Everything here is a default. Layout, filters, sidebar, avatars, and badges can still be changed
  while you work in conversations."* Nothing on this page locks anything — it sets where you start
  each day.
</Info>

### Conversation layout

*"Default layout when you open conversations. Switch between condensed and expanded anytime using the layout toggle in the conversation view."*

| Option | Description | Suits |
| - | - | - |
| **Condensed** | *"Keep the conversation list visible alongside the active chat."* | Triage. You can see what is queuing while you answer |
| **Expanded** | *"Focus on one view at a time — list or chat fills the screen."* | Long replies, laptops, and anyone who finds a live queue distracting |

### Default list filters

*"Initial status and sort when you open the conversation list. Change filters anytime from the list toolbar."*

* **Default status** — *"Default status filter. You can switch status in the conversation list at any time."*
* **Default sort** — *"Default sort order. You can re-sort the list anytime from the sort menu."*

Set these to the view you actually start from. If the first thing you do every morning is switch to Unassigned and sort by oldest, make that the default and stop doing it every morning.

### Contact sidebar

*"Default state for the contact sidebar when opening a conversation. You can open or close it anytime while chatting."*

| Option | Description |
| - | - |
| **Contact sidebar closed** | *"Keep the conversation view focused — contact details stay hidden until you open them."* |
| **Contact sidebar open** | *"Show contact details alongside the conversation each time you open a chat."* |

Open if you check who someone is before replying. Closed on a smaller screen, where the sidebar costs you the message width.

### Contact & apps panel

*"Choose where the contact and apps shortcuts appear when you're in a conversation."*

| Option | Description |
| - | - |
| **Message area** | *"Float the panel at the top of the message thread, to the right of the conversation."* |
| **Reply box** | *"Place the panel in the reply composer, just to the left of the Send button."* |

Put it in the **reply box** if you use [integrations](/integrations) while composing — creating a ticket, looking up an order — because it lands where your hands already are.

### Inbox notifications

*"Choose what happens to a conversation's unread Inbox notifications when you open and read that conversation."*

| Option | Description |
| - | - |
| **Clear automatically** | *"Reading a conversation marks its Inbox notifications as read, so the Inbox only shows what you haven't seen."* |
| **Keep until dismissed** | *"Inbox notifications stay unread until you open them from the Inbox or mark them as read yourself."* |

**Clear automatically** keeps the Inbox as a list of things you have not looked at. **Keep until dismissed** turns it into a to-do list you tick off deliberately — better if you often read something, decide to come back to it, and then forget.

### Company logo styling

*"When a contact has an email address, optionally replace their profile picture with their company logo. Choose whether those logos appear in a square or circular frame."*

**Square** or **Circle**. Square suits real logos, most of which are designed in a square; circle keeps every avatar in the list the same shape. Pick one and leave it — the value is consistency.

### Message bubble colors

*"Choose the bubble color for each type of message in a conversation. Every color pairs a light and dark shade, so bubbles stay readable in both themes."*

Five independently colourable message types:

| Type | What it is |
| - | - |
| **Human agent replies** | *"Messages sent by you and your teammates."* |
| **Tied Bot messages** | *"Automated messages sent by bot flows and automations."* |
| **Tied AI agent messages** | *"Messages sent by the Tied AI orchestration agent."* |
| **Received messages** | *"Incoming messages from your customers."* |
| **Failed messages** | Anything that did not send. Restricted to warning hues, so a failure can never be styled to look like a success |

<Tip>
  **Give the bot and the AI agent visibly different colours from each other and from your team.**
  This is the one setting on the page that is more than taste. Scanning a transcript to work out
  who said what — [a scripted flow, the agent, or a person](/agents) — is something you will do
  constantly the moment anything goes wrong, and three colours makes it instant.
</Tip>

Colours pair a light and dark shade automatically, so a choice that works in light mode works in dark mode too. Private notes carry their own separate colour setting, on the same page.

### Customer verification badge

A badge on contacts who have supplied enough identifying information. You choose which fields count — email, name, phone, identifier, location, company name, city, country, bio — and a contact with all of them shows as verified.

This is a **visual cue for your team**, not a security control. Real proof of who someone is comes from [identity verification](/channels/web-chat#identity-verification) on web chat, or from the channel itself on Apple Messages, WhatsApp and SMS.

## Interface

On your [profile](/admin/profile), under **Interface** — *"Customize the look and feel of your Tied dashboard."*

| Setting | Options |
| - | - |
| **Font size** | *"Adjust the text size across the dashboard based on your preference."* Smaller, Small, Default, Large, Larger |
| **Preferred Language** | *"Choose the language you want to use."* Any supported language, or **Use account default** |
| **Hotkey to send messages** | *"You can select a hotkey (either Enter or Cmd/Ctrl+Enter) based on your preference of writing."* |

On the hotkey — **Enter (↵)** sends immediately, **Cmd/Ctrl + Enter (⌘ + ↵)** lets Enter make a new line.

<Warning>
  **Choose Cmd/Ctrl + Enter if you write multi-paragraph replies.** With Enter-to-send, every
  attempt at a line break is a half-finished message delivered to a customer. You cannot unsend it.
</Warning>
