How WhatsApp pricing works

Two components stacked together, varying by message category and recipient country:
  1. Meta WhatsApp fee — passed through at cost. Varies by category and the recipient’s country.
  2. Tied platform fee — a flat $0.005 per chargeable message, regardless of category or country. $0 for service messages.
All-in = Meta fee + Tied platform fee.
Incoming messages are always free, at both the Meta and Tied layers.
The recipient’s country code determines the rate, not your business location.

The two free windows

These matter more than the rates. Structuring around them is the single biggest lever on a WhatsApp bill. The 24-hour service window, what it makes free, how it restarts, and the separate 72-hour free entry point window. The 24-hour service window, what it makes free, how it restarts, and the separate 72-hour free entry point window.
1

24-hour customer service window

When a user messages your business, a 24-hour window opens. Any free-form reply you send inside it is free, and utility templates inside it are free too. The window resets with each new user message — so a long support thread can stay free indefinitely.
2

72-hour Free Entry Point window

When a user reaches you via a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or a Facebook Page CTA button, a 72-hour window opens in which all messages are free — marketing, utility and authentication templates included. This is the cheapest way to acquire and engage WhatsApp customers; structuring acquisition around it routinely cuts messaging costs 60–80%.

Tied platform fee

Flat across all categories and all countries. No tier variation. The Meta fee applies on top.

Meta fees by country

All-in rates in USD per delivered template message, effective 1 July 2026.
For regions marked Variable, rates follow Meta’s regional grouping and can shift as Meta moves markets to standalone rate cards. Contact us for a quote with country-specific routing.

Volume tiers

Meta provides automatic volume tier discounts for utility and authentication messages at higher monthly volumes. Tier progress accrues at the business portfolio level, across all WhatsApp Business Accounts you own — never aggregated across Tied’s other customers. Tied passes these discounts through directly at no additional markup. Volume tiers are most material for OTP-heavy use cases — fintech, e-commerce checkout, account security. If you expect more than 1M authentication messages a month, we recommend pre-modelling tier benefits with our team during onboarding.

Authentication-international rate

Nine markets have a separate authentication-international rate that applies when sending OTPs from a WhatsApp Business Account registered outside that country: Egypt, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the UAE. Nine more — Bangladesh, Iraq, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman and Ukraine — gain these rates on 1 October 2026.
Auth-international rates run roughly 2.5× to 22× higher than standard authentication rates, depending on the market. Tied automatically routes through correctly-registered WABAs where possible to minimise these charges. For cross-border OTP-heavy workloads, contact us for a custom routing strategy.
